5 Low Cost Room Makeover Tips

Posted by brichards on September 19, 2017

Are you tired of looking at that hideous wall? Does walking barefoot on your carpet make you cringe? Is your space just another headache?

Hopefully, the answer is no. But if so, we know exactly how it feels to dislike a room in your home. Also, we understand it can be expensive to completely redo a room, so we’ve put together 5 cheap room ideas to get you in the makeover mood and turn your drab room into a fab room!

Put together a color scheme

Start to think about your room basics, such as the walls and floor colors. Then, find decor and artwork that you own and enjoy looking at. See if you can make the color scheme match what you already own. Next, put together the final scheme you’ll stick to. Pick a dominant color, a secondary color, and an accent color or pattern.

Match or remove

Make your dresser, desk and side table the same color (one from your color scheme). Grab a few spray paint cans (and primer) and transform your handed down dresser into a stylish new piece. Get rid of items that don’t match the color scheme. But be careful not to get rid of useful items, like a lamp stand, when all it needs is some paint and a different lamp shade.

Organize + Storage

Can’t get rid of all the items that don’t fit the color scheme? No problem! Buy storage baskets or bins that do match. Color from the bins will add character to the room, and this is an easy way to avoid, or hide, clutter. Even putting organizers inside drawers and closets can make a space feel fresh. Shoe boxes can be turned into great containers and dresser drawer separators too.

Accent

Show off your style! Accent and add a splash of color to small details, such as drawer handles, furniture legs and picture frames. If you chose a design or pattern as an accent on your color scheme, buy peel-stick contact paper, which ranges from about $10 to $20, and cut it into any shape then applied to any smooth surface. Also, a new rug and accent pillow can really tie together the look of a room.

DIY

Break out your art supplies and make artwork that goes along with your color scheme. If you really like tapestries, consider buying fabric and possibly painting it to cover any holes in walls. Remember, Muncie is the home of Ball Jars and these glass containers look good in almost any room. Lastly, cleaning is a cheap way to make a huge change to your space. Buy some cleaning supplies and scrub the walls. The color under the dust might not be so drab after all.
